This website is run by Amber Valley Borough Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, this means you should be able to:

- change colours and contrast levels
- zoom in without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to the website using a screen reader.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible.

- most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen readers. We are working on updating our PDFs to make them a consistent format and therefore more accessible, unfortunately this is a big project and we aim to have this completed in 2024/25.
- we have third party tools installed on our website which may conflict with our accessibility standards, we are in contact with these providers to hopefully work through a solution.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the reasons listed below.

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs documents are essential to providing our services. By December 2024, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Interactive third party tools

We offer an interactive cookies bar which is provided by an external supplier. Unfortunately you may not be able to access all the content and functionality by using your keyboard on the pop up. However all content is available to view on our cookies page.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

Our accessibility plan below shows how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website.

- monthly scans - we carry out a monthly accessibility scan of our website to flag any errors with new content added. We aim to fix these within a few days of the scan being carried out.
- PDF documents - this is an ongoing project for us to update the format of our documents offered on the website. We aim to have documents fully accessible by December 2024.
